Pay Chen is a host on OMNI Television.

 

My feet are green because I walk or ride my bike around the city. Instead of a car I have a scooter that can take me where my feet can't.

What made you decide to do your bit for the environment?

The rate of global warming is frightening. We are destroying the environment. It's our home — we should keep it clean and safe.

What person or group do you most admire for their environmental commitment?

I love the commercials with David Suzuki. He really highlights the small changes people can make — several small steps can lead to a big change.

What is your environmental pet peeve? What do other people do (or not do) that drives you crazy?

I hate seeing computers and TVs being thrown out in the garbage. There are safer and more useful ways to dispose of these items. Many organizations will take them off your hands so they can be reused and given to people in need. If you're going to upgrade your technology try to give away your old things instead of sending it to a landfill.

What could the whole world live without in order to help our environment?

Shopping bags! I cringe when I see people buying one item from a store and getting another bag when they already have 5 on their arm from different stores. You won't forget where that shirt came from just because you don't have a bag with the store's name on it.

What's in your Blue Box?

Empty soy milk containers and paper.

Is there an environmental initiative you're involved in that you'd like to highlight or promote?

I want to encourage people to buy locally. Support local growers and producers by shopping at a farmer's market. You'll be supporting your neighbours and benefiting from fresh food. It's win-win!
